Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform TIG, MIG, and arc welding on a variety of metals including steel, stainless steel, and aluminium for fabrication and repair projects.
  2. Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications to ensure accurate welding and assembly.
  3. Deliver high quality metal fabrication and repair services for municipal infrastructure, public assets, and equipment.
  4. Work independently or as part of a team to complete projects on time and to required standards.
  5. Maintain a safety first mindset at all times, following all workplace health and safety protocols.
  6. Inspect completed welds for defects, ensuring they meet strength and appearance requirements.
  7. Maintain welding equipment and work areas in clean, safe, and organised condition.

What You Need to Qualify

You must be a qualified welder with hands on experience in TIG, MIG, and arc welding. Confidence working across a range of metals and fabrication projects is essential. You bring precision, reliability, and pride to every job. Strong communication skills and a safety first mindset are required. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings is mandatory. To be eligible, you must have Australian or New Zealand citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency, or hold a valid visa with appropriate work rights. The City of Hobart is currently unable to provide visa sponsorship. A current driver’s licence is required. Appointment will be subject to satisfactory pre employment background checks including reference checks, National Police History record check, and a medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
