A rapidly growing meal delivery service is looking for an experienced sous chef to oversee daily kitchen operations at their Calgary facility. Key Responsibilities
- Train, coach, and develop a team of hourly kitchen employees to maintain high performance standards
- Manage performance metrics on safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and morale, providing regular progress reports to the Senior Manager of Production
- Conduct root cause analyses when targets are missed and drive continuous improvement in all kitchen areas
- Maintain upkeep of the kitchen including equipment and inventory, ensuring everything is in working order
- Ensure the kitchen operates with the highest health and safety standards, aligned with federal and provincial requirements
- Track and manage food storage, rotation, and quality to prevent waste and maintain freshness
- Work closely with other departments to execute plant wide process improvement initiatives
- Make in flight adjustments to keep production on track and meet daily goals
- Work in all areas of the production facility including refrigerated areas, performing tasks from receiving ingredients to packing final orders
- Use personal protective equipment as directed and report any workplace hazards or dangers to your supervisor
Qualifications
Two or more years of experience as a sous chef in a commissary kitchen with high volume food preparation. Computer literacy with Microsoft Office or Google Suite applications including spreadsheets and slides. Proven ability to lead, train, and develop a large group of employees in an active kitchen setting. A problem solver’s mentality that sees challenges as opportunities. Strong communication skills with the ability to adjust your style to different audiences and speak with tact and diplomacy. Ability to multitask while tracking recipe development, maintaining efficiency, and delivering on time. Comfortable working in temperatures ranging from 0 to 30 degrees Celsius.
