Key Responsibilities
- Load, unload and transport construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, bricks, and lumber to and from work areas.
- Read blueprints to determine work requirements and follow specifications for formwork, grading, and masonry.
- Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring, and barricades as needed for each project.
- Mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt using shovels, rakes, and hand tampers.
- Level earth to fine grade specifications, performing rough grading and fine grading and finishing tasks.
- Clean and pile salvaged materials for reuse, removing rubble and other debris from construction sites.
- Direct traffic at or near construction sites using hand signals or signage to ensure safety.
- Prepare and lay bricks, concrete blocks, structural tiles or other masonry units for walls and driveways.
- Grease booms, pulleys, buckets and other components of heavy equipment such as backhoes and loaders.
- Plant and move trees as part of landscaping duties, and pack grout into joints between tiles.
What You Need to Qualify
No degree, certificate, or diploma is required. Experience is considered an asset but not mandatory as training can be provided. You must be physically fit for demanding tasks involving manual dexterity, repetitive movements, handling heavy loads up to 23 kilograms, and maintaining hand eye coordination. You will work outdoors in various weather conditions. Experience with trenching, rough grading, landscaping, and fine grading is preferred. Familiarity with power tools, concrete mixers, jackhammers, air compressors, nail guns, drills, chain saws, compactors, sledgehammers, shovels, and skidsteers is an asset. You must be authorized to work in Canada. You should live near the job location or be willing to commute. Steel toed safety boots and rain gear are required. Pay Rate and Benefits
