Key Responsibilities
- Study drawings and specifications to determine project requirements and the materials needed for each welding job.
- Select appropriate metals for welding projects, understanding the properties of different metals to ensure strong, durable results.
- Cut and shape metals using different tools, torches, and machines, including shaping and bending metals to fit project specifications exactly.
- Join metals and parts together using a range of welding techniques appropriate to the material and application.
- Ensure the end product complies with all specifications, including cleaning, polishing, and smoothing to achieve a high quality finish.
- Comply with OH&S regulations at all times, maintaining a safe work environment for yourself and your teammates.
- Follow instructions carefully from supervisors and collaborate with the production team to meet project deadlines.
What You Need to Qualify
At least three years of work experience in the welding field is required. You must understand the properties of different welding metals and know which techniques work best for each. Ability to follow instructions accurately is essential. High attention to detail is required to ensure every weld meets quality standards. A strong safety focused work ethic is non negotiable. Physical fitness for standing, bending, lifting, and working with metal components is necessary. A relevant trade qualification such as Certificate III in Engineering Fabrication Trade is preferred but not mandatory if experience is sufficient. You must have Australian work rights. A driver’s license is required to commute to Goulburn.
Salary and Benefits
The hourly rate for this welder position ranges from 35 to 42 Australian dollars per hour based on experience and qualifications, which aligns with current market rates for skilled welders in regional New South Wales.
