Key Responsibilities
- Operate various processing and packaging machines including fillers, seamers, retorts, labelling machines, robotic palletisers, and automated handling systems.
- Set up machines for production runs, ensuring that all settings meet product specifications and safety standards.
- Regularly inspect equipment for proper functioning and perform minor repairs or adjustments as necessary.
- Monitor the production line for any issues such as product quality concerns or machinery malfunctions, and report problems to supervisors immediately.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the work area, following all safety and hygiene regulations.
- Record production data including output quantity, downtime, and product quality metrics on both manual and computer based systems.
- Follow standard operating procedures for equipment operation, safety, and quality assurance.
- Assist with the training of new machine operators and support team members as needed.
- Participate in routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to ensure optimal performance.
- Perform manual batching and weighing of raw materials as required.
What You Need to Qualify
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; technical training in machinery operation or related fields is a plus. Previous experience as a machine operator is required, preferably in food production or processing, especially in a cannery environment. An understanding of food safety regulations and practices is essential. You must have mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment is critical. Good communication skills and attention to detail are required. You must be able to work nightshift from 6pm to 6.30am Monday to Thursday, with an initial training period of approximately two months on dayshift from 6am to 6.30pm. Physical fitness for standing, lifting up to 15 kilograms, and working in a production environment is necessary.
Salary and Benefits
The hourly rate ranges from 29 to 40 New Zealand dollars per hour based on experience and qualifications, which aligns with current market rates for experienced machine operators in Auckland.
